A few weeks ago I’ve received an invitation to discover the new 5 stars hotel from the Marriot group that just opened in the middle of Reims: the Caserne Chanzy Hôtel & Spa.

The Boyfriend and Sticky were also invited and considering the fact that Reims is only a 1h30 drive from Paris, we’ve decided to go there for a weekend to celebrate our babymoon before the Tortellino was born. :) Because yes, if you follow me on social medias you know that the Boyfriend and I we are expecting a Tortellini for the end of the year. I will tell you more about it in a dedicated post.

La Caserne Chanzy :

L’hôtel :

L’hôtel se situe dans l’ancienne caserne de sapeur-pompiers (ce qui explique son nom) construite dans les années 20, sur la place du parvis de la cathédrale de Reims. D’ailleurs, de nombreux éléments d’architecture de la caserne de l’époque ont été conservés. L’hôtel compte 89 chambres dont 17 suites, sachant que la moitié des chambres ont une vue imprenable sur la cathédrale.

Recently my parents bought a second home in Cabourg in Normandy. I’m so happy I will now be able to spend the weekend at the seaside whenever I want and to discover Normandy a little bit more. This is why I’m launching today a series of Normans blog posts.

Let’s begin with the charming village of Beuvron-en-Auge where we celebrated the 60th birthday of my father last July.

Why would you go to Beuvron-en-Auge? First of all to enjoy a delicious lunch or diner at the Michelin-starred restaurant Le Pavé d’Auge (Gosh it was amazing), but also because strolling in the streets of this cute village is like a fairy tale! Little wonder that it’s listed among the “Loveliest Villages of France”.

I love these colorful half-timbered houses and all these flowers but also the peaceful atmosphere. As soon as you set foot in this village, you immediatly feel like you’re on holidays! If you’re in the area of Cabourg and want to go somewhere new and leave the city just for a few hours, this is the place for you!

On these pictures you can see my favorite outfit of this summer: a Comptoir des cotonniers dress and a Karl Marc John top. if I could, I would wear this outfit everyday.

In a few words I can’t say enough about this cute village that totally seduced me. If you want to do some antique chopping, there are also a few nice little boutiques.

Finally there’s a former school where Alain, a modeler passionnante about trains, has opened a small museum. It’s free so don’t hesitate to check out, it’s really nice and Alain will be happy to share his passion with you (open every day during summer and during school holidays the rest of the year).

Unless you’e not attracted by the charm of half-timbered houses, it’s quite difficult to not fall in love with this place isn’t it?

(To be translated) Il y a 2 ans nous allions dans le sud-ouest pour la première fois le Rital et moi et nous avions adoré ! Nous avions fait l’itinéraire suivant : Bordeaux, St Emilion, Biarritz, Bardenas (Espagne), Bayonne et Sarlat. Vous pouvez retrouver l’ensemble de ce road-trip ici. Il y a peu, nos amis Maïa (que vous connaissez peut-être sous le nom de Petits Béguins) et David qui rêvaient d’espace et de verdure ont quitté Paris pour s’installer dans une jolie maison sur la côte basque. Nous n’avons pas attendu longtemps avant de leur rendre visite, on peut même presque dire que nous nous sommes invités chez eux tellement nous avions hâte qu’ils nous fassent découvrir leur nouvelle vie. Allez je partage avec vous une tranche de ce doux week-end entre amis.

David et Maïa, heureux propriétaires, n’avaient déménagé que très récemment donc ils n’avaient pas encore eu le temps d’aménager la maison comme ils le souhaitaient mais on s’est tout de suite senti bien : un beau terrain, un potager grâce auquel nous avons pu cuisiner les légumes du jardin, de grands espaces (un rêve inaccessible lorsqu’on vit en région parisienne), un mur de briques, des plantes, des meubles qui ont une histoire, une atmosphère cosy et chaleureuse remplie d’amour… bref La maison du bonheur !

Mais nous n’étions pas les seuls à être ravis de nous retrouver, Sticky était aux anges de retrouver sa meilleure amie Cookïe ! C’est incroyable comme elles s’entendent bien ces 2-là, elles n’ont pas arrêté de jouer et ensuite elles dormaient blotties l’une contre l’autre. Trop choutes !

Voici maintenant un petit aperçu de notre week-end passé entre Biarritz, Guéthary, St Jean de Luz et Hossegor.

Biarritz :

Il y a 2 ans nous étions passés en coup de vent à Biarritz, nous avions donc « simplement » profité de la plage car il faisait un temps exceptionnel pour le mois de novembre (25°C rien que ça). Même si nous n’avions pas vu grand chose à l’époque nous avions déjà beaucoup aimé l’endroit donc nous étions d’autant plus contents de pouvoir y retourner. Nous avons marché le long de l’océan tout en papotant, c’était très agréable.

Nous avons flâné jusqu’au port des pêcheurs que nous découvrions pour la première fois. L’ambiance très conviviale avec toutes ces petites terrasses nous a beaucoup plu. Nous nous sommes donc arrêtés là pour déjeuner et déguster des spécialités locales (si l’on fait abstraction des frites une fois). Au menu : chipirons, gambas et sardines.

Guéthary :

David et Maïa nous ont ensuite fait découvrir Guéthary que j’avoue je ne connaissais même pas de nom (bon il faut aussi dire que je suis archi nulle en géo au cas où vous ne l’auriez pas déjà deviné). Si comme moi vous ne connaissez pas Guéthary, c’est une station balnéaire située entre Biarritz et Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Nous avons adoré cette ville si pittoresque avec toutes ces petites maisons basques colorées, la vue sur l’océan depuis les falaises et se rincer l’oeil en regardant tous ces beaux surfeurs bronzés et l’ambiance estivale et décontractée.

Bonnes adresses :

On a testé 2 adresses à Guéthary que je vous recommande : la très jolie boutique de déco Leihorra et le restaurant Hétéroclito car on y mange bien, la déco est très sympa et il y a une terrasse qui donne sur l’océan évidemment !

Je vous conseille également la boulangerie Ogi Ona qui se trouve à Bidart, la ville qui se trouve juste à côté de Guéthary et qui fait les meilleurs gâteaux basques du monde (2 avenue de la Grande Plage).

Saint-Jean de Luz :

Nous avons ensuite été à Saint-Jean-de-Luz que bien sûr je connaissais de nom (hello Marion) mais sans avoir jamais eu l’occasion d’y mettre les pieds. J’ai trouvé la ville très jolie, je comprends pourquoi autant de gens l’aiment mais d’un autre côté le monde m’a un peu rebutée. Je pense que je l’apprécierai sûrement beaucoup plus en y retournant hors saison.

Hossegor :

Enfin nous avons terminé en beauté ce week-end par un brunch au Mango Tree sur la plage du lac d’Hossegor. Au Mango Tree on a le choix entre des jus de fruits et légumes frais, des smoothie bowls, des tartines…non seulement c’est sain mais c’est surtout MEGA BON ! Et puis comme cadre on a déjà vu pire non ?

Avant de reprendre la route et histoire de digérer ce brunch de folie, nous avons joué tous ensemble sur la plage avec les chiens, rien que du bonheur en somme.

Merci David et Maïa pour ce doux week-end en votre compagnie et pour ce super programme malgré « l’état » de Maïa. Nous souhaitons encore plus de bonheur à votre merveilleuse petite famille qui ne sera bientôt plus si petite et nous avons déjà hâte de revenir dans la Maison du bonheur car vous nous manquez et ce n’est pas Sticky qui me contredira. Lorsque nous aurons notre maison du bonheur dans quelques années, vous serez les bienvenus et nous viendrons vous chercher en Fiat 500 rétro dans laquelle nous sillonnerons la campagne italienne. Qu’est-ce que vous en dites ? :) A bientôt les amis !

Last weekend, was the 1st weekend the Boyfriend and I spent outside of Paris since last November so no need to tell you that we were very excited about this weekend.  This weekend was also a good opportunity to celebrate the end of the Boyfriend’s recovery after the knee surgery he had 6 weeks ago. No more weekends being stuck at home, we can finally get on with our lives.

We were very lucky to be able to stay Le Majestic Barrière, a prestigious five-star-hotel in Cannes. We were invited for the campaign “A winter facing the sea”: from November 1st to the 31st of March 2017, hotel rooms with sea view are available at only 156 € for 2 people! Very tempting isn’t it?

This weekend was perfect because we visited the hotel, we went to the restaurants, we had a massage at the spa of the hotel and strolled in Cannes. I want weekends like this one every week!

Visit of the hotel:

We visited 3 amazing suites: Nous avons visité 3 suites prestigieuses de l’hôtel : Mélodie suite, Christian Dior suite and Majestic Barrière suite.

The Mélodie suite is 156 m2 and is named after the movie shot in 1963 in this hotel with Jean Gabin et Alain Delon.

Christian Dior suite is stunning, it’s a 450 m2 apartment!  It’s the suite I prefered. Believe it or not but a G20 meeting was held in this suite!

The Majestic Barrière suite looks a lot like the Christian Dior one because they share the same disposition of rooms but it has a little something that makes all the difference… there a 150 m2 terrace on the roof with a pool!!! What a dream!

We weren’t staying in one of these suites, but our room was pretty amazing because it was big, the bed was huge and very comgfy, our bathroom very chic and…

…the cherry on the cake, a big terrace with this incredible view!

Restaurants and bars :

In the hotel there are 2 restaurants: the Fouquet’s and La Petite Maison de Nicole (well 3 if you count the one on the beach) and 2 bars (one inside and one outside).

The Fouquet’s is a “bistrot Parisien” with a Mediterranean touch. We enjoyed so much having lunch outside by the pool.

At The Petite Maison de Nicole, the atmosphere is cozy and the decoration is romantic and rustic. The dishes that are served are sunny recipes like savour fried courgette flowers, calamaretti fritti, crab tempura… The food was very good and the atmosphere very festive this night because there was this band passing from table to table to ask people what music they should play and everyone in the restaurant was singing and clapping. So nice!

Finally, at the Bar Galerie du Fouquet’s Cannes, the sommelier made us taste several local organic wines. When we arrived on Saturday, the hotel had only reopened after 1 month of renovation so we were among the 1st clients to see the new bar. It’s beautiful isn’t it, I felt like I was in a Gastby movie.

We had a 1h massage at the hotel spa, what a delight!

Cannes :

Of course we didn’t stay inside the hotel the whole weekend, we had to enjoy Cannes under the sun. We both already knew the city and we didn’t had much time but we wanted to go to the old city where the view is pretty amazing (even though it wasn’t the best idea for the Boyfriend’s knee).

Before catching our flight to go back to Paris we walked on the beach and we took a last breath of sea. If you’re on the French Riviera, don’t forget to go visit Nice. You can read again my blog post about it here.

I’d like to thanks Majestic and Joëlle for this wonderful weekend. We had time to rest and relax, enjoy the sun, eat good food and stroll, exactly what we needed. Now we’re ready to go back to our normal routine with a large smile.

Au moment des fêtes de fin d’année beaucoup de gens vont passer le week-end en Alsace et plus particulièrement à Strasbourg pour s’imprégner de l’ambiance de Noël et faire la tournée des marchés de Noël mais il n’y a pas que Strasbourg qui vaille le coup, et le nord de l’Alsace alors ? Let’s go !

Gundershoffen :

On commence notre petit périple alsacien par l’hôtel où nous avons séjourné dans une petite ville qui porte le nom de Gundershoffen (à tes souhaits) à 40 km de Strasbourg. Comme je vous le dis souvent je préfère en général les B&B aux hôtels car ce sont des endroits souvent plus chaleureux et l’on s’y sent facilement chez soi. Il y a pourtant des hôtels qui allient le charme, le confort et une atmosphère chaleureuse et L’Hôtel Le Moulin est de ceux-là (au même titre que Le Manoir St Michel à Fréhel en Bretagne dont je vous avais parlé ici). Il s’agit d’un ancien moulin comme son nom l’indique au milieu d’un magnifique jardin traversé d’une rivière, le cadre est exceptionnel ! On a l’impression d’être plongé dans un conte de Noël !

Le petit déjeuner est royal (digne d’un 4 étoiles et encore on peut même être déçu par les 4 étoiles), on est bien loin des petits déj tristes d’hôtel, les confitures sont faites maison, tous les produits sont frais et le tout est joliment présenté. Je suis tombée amoureuse de la vaisselle !

Quant aux chambres elles sont à l’image du reste de l’hôtel. On avait la chambre prénommée « La chambre de Camille » (135€/nuit), à la fois rustique et coquette, on se serait cru dans un chalet, j’adore !

Bref vous l’avez compris, j’ai été complètement conquise par le lieu, mais qui ne le serait pas ? Qu’est-ce que j’aime ce genre d’endroits et là aussi le personnel était adorable ! Bref, c’est l’endroit idéal pour un week-end en amoureux.

Hôtel Le Moulin – 7 rue du Moulin – 67110 GUNDERSHOFFEN

L’hôtel n’a pas de restaurant mais il y en a un très bon à 300m : Le Cygne. On a goûté la poêlée de gambas, julienne de légumes au sésame grillé, vinaigrette à la cacahuète, la poire de boeuf en 2 cuissons, croute de moelle persillée, déclinaison de choux-fleurs, jus de cuisson au vin rouge et le moelleux mandarine, soupe de fruit, sorbet aux fruits exotiques. Bon appétit !

Wissembourg :

Découvrons maintenant les villes alentours.

C’est à Wissembourg que nous nous sommes arrêtés, une mignonne petite ville médiévale de 8000 habitants. On a admiré les jolies façades joliment décorées pour les fêtes, bavé devant les vitrine de la pâtisserie Au petit Kougelhopf et dévoré un délicieux kouglof (20 rue Nationale), flâné le long de la rivière Lauter, sans oublier bien sûr de jeter un oeil au marché de Noël et on a même chiné dans une brocante.

Cleebourg :

Loin de moi l’idée de vouloir passer pour une alcolo mais le Rital et moi on apprécie de plus en plus le bon vin et on est fasciné par le monde du vin, on prend beaucoup de plaisir à discuter avec des passionnés (et on ne crache pas sur les dégustations bien entendu et on ne crache pas le vin dans le crachoir non plus c’est du gâchis hi hi). On a donc fait une visite privée des caves de Cleebourg avec le directeur en personne.

Sur ce grand tonneau il y a écrit : « Tu bois, tu meurs. Tu ne bois pas, tu meurs quand même. » :D

On a terminé cette visite par une dégustation enfin après 12 verres, je ne sais pas si on peux encore parler de dégustation ! :) Pinot blanc, pinot noir, pinot gris, crémant, riesling, Gewürztraminer, muscat, sylvaner… on a tout goûté ! On était censé rester 1h et finalement on est resté 2h30 ! Je comprends mieux maintenant pourquoi lorsqu’en arrivant quand on lui a dit qu’on avait 1h devant nous et donc qu’on était large il nous a répondu « Oh avec les vins on ne sait jamais. » Mais faut dire qu’on en a bu « que » 12 parce qu’on a dit stop, sinon on aurait probablement fini en roulant sous le bar. On a passé en tout cas un super moment en sa compagnie et les vins étaient tellement bons qu’on est reparti avec 9 bouteilles !

Hunspach :

Vous connaissez Hunspach ? Ce village est classé parmi les plus beaux villages de France et au premier coup d’oeil on comprend pourquoi. L’unité architecturale est remarquablement préservée, on aperçoit que des maisons blanches à colombages et c’est pas commun, surtout en Alsace où l’on a aperçu un bon nombre de maisons peintes de couleurs criardes. Le village est minuscule, on peut facilement faire le tour à pied mais les maisons se ressemblant toutes, on peut avoir du mal à retrouver son chemin.

Betschdorf :

Nous n’avons rien vu de Betschdorf car il faisait nuit noire, nous sommes seulement allés voir Winkel Art, une exposition/brocante de décos de Noël logée dans les dépendances d’une ancienne exploitation agricole. On se serait cru dans la caverne du Père Noël ! Si on était venu en Alsace en voiture et pas en train (et si on n’avait pas déjà acheté 9 bouteilles de vin), on serait bien reparti avec 2,3 choses je pense. Il y avait de très jolies choses.

Niederbronn-les-Bains :

Quatrième ville : Niederbronn-les-Bains. Je ne vais pas vous mentir, c’est la ville parmi celles visitées que j’ai le moins aimée. J’ai trouvé qu’elle n’avait pas autant de charme et qu’elle manquait d’âme par rapport aux précédentes mais c’est peut-être lié au fait que c’est une plus grande ville. En plus on n’est pas resté longtemps donc peut-être qu’on ne lui a pas laissé sa chance mais j’ai tout de même repéré de bien jolies façades et l’esprit de Noël était bien toujours présent.

Haguenau :

Terminons avec quelques photos de la ville d’Haguenau qui est la 4e ville la plus grande d’Alsace. Je me rends compte que je préfère souvent l’ambiance et le charme qui se dégagent des petits villages comparés aux villes mais l’architecture à Haguenau y est très belle et ce jour-là cela grouillait de familles enivrées par les fêtes de fin d’année.

Enfin, impossible de visiter une région sans manger local et qui dit local dit flammekueche et choucroute pardi !

Avant de reprendre notre train direction Paris, on a fait un bain de foule en passant quelques heures dans la capitale de Noël j’ai nommé Strasbourg. Cette ville en cette période est à voir, l’atmosphère y est vraiment unique.

Alors qu’avez-vous pensé du nord de l’Alsace ? Vous connaissiez ? Il y a tellement de belles choses à voir dans la région, on reviendrait bien avec Sticky la prochaine fois pour se faire des randonnées comme l’ont fait les copines d’Overways : Anne, Laura et Alice (ces nanas sont tellement talentueuses, c’est presque indécent)  ! Merci Tourisme Alsace pour cette découverte de l’Alsace hors des sentiers battus et pour cette plongée au cœur de Noël !

Those of us who are living in île-de-France region are quite lucky because not only we have Paris, one of the most beautiful city in the world, but also because there are so many nice things to see around like Barbizon!

After taking you to Vaux-de-Cernay and Moret-sur-Loing, I’m taking you today near Fontainebleau in a small village called Barbizon where the Boyfriend, Sticky and I strolled during an afternoon.

Barbizon, is only a 45-minute drive from Paris. It’s known as the “painters’ village” because in 1850 it was the hub of pre-impressionnists French painters in lack of inspiration and who wanted to go far away from the city.  I can easily understand them, what an adorable and bucolic village it is!

Today, Barbizon attacks a lot of impassioned with painting and nature lovers of people like me who like to stroll un quiet and scenic places like this one. Enough has been said, time to simply stroll around.

In Barbizon there are so many amazingly beautiful houses that I couldn’t keep house dreaming and it was painful since we are currently looking to buy our 1st apartment and that it is such a nightmare!

This hotel (hôtellerie du Bas-Bréau) looks amazing, I would have loved to stay there for the night. :) It makes me think of Lyons-la-Forêt.

And there were times when I had the impression to be back in St Emilion (yes I know, Barbizon reminded me of a lot of places). What a delightful stroll it was!

I strongly recommend you the madeleines of the boulangerie La Galerie des Pains (70 Grande rue). They were so good that as soon as we finished them, we ran back to buy some more.

And here is my new favorite outfit for strolling: Faguo’s sneakers and this amazing T-shirt “Flâneuse” (= stroller in French). It’s like it was made for me!

This day we were celebrating the 1st birthday of this little monster. Even if it has not been a smooth ride, we love her so much, she’s now part of the family.

It’s on this epic picture that I’m leaving you. I’m sorry if this post sounds like a lot of rambling but I didn’t had that much to say for once (lazy people here must be happy about it, even if there were still so many pictures, I’m really bad at picking pictures), I just wanted to make you discover this cute village. So who’s going to Barbizon this weekend? :)

There are some cities that we know well but we don’t really see them. You know, these cities where we go to see the family. If we go there it’s not to visit the city but to see the people we love. We only stroll in the streets to get from point A to point B and we see the city without really seeing it. One day you finally take the time to look around and you ask yourself: “How could I’ve missed this all these years?!”.

I’ve studied 5 years in Lille but I’ve only realized how beautiful it was several years after I left it. I’ve talked to you about it here.

the same thing happened with Besançon because it’s the city were my dad grew up and where my grandparents, my uncle, my aunt and my cousins still live. It’s a city where I’m used going often since I was born but for me Besançon was just the place where my family lived, nothing more and the place where I could do 10 poney rides at Micaud park, climb to the Citadelle in a little train to go see the “kangaroo-rabbits” and where my cousin and I used to mix all the ingredients we could find in my grandma’s kitchen. In a few words, it was a city important for the people who were living there and for the memories I’ve created but certainly not for the city itself.

Besançon is not however an uninteresting city, “au contraire”! It’s an historical city where there are 170 protected historical monuments, a testimony of its rich past. It’s the cradle of famous people like Victor Hugo or the Lumière brothers who have their birth house almost in front of each other.

Architecturally speaking, the city is interesting too. Most of the buildings are built with Chailluz stone which explains the colors blue-grey and ochre. It’s a picturesque town with beautiful facades and colorful doors.

The curved window bars made of forged iron that you can see on the picture above are a particular feature of the city.

It’s especially by pushing the doors that you will discover the real architecture treasures of Besançon because behind these doors hide private courtyards and Besançon stair cases.  There are more than 200! I can’t imagine that I’ve just discovered them now!

During a stroll with my grandma I’ve discovered that my dad was born in this clinic turned into a small hotel.

The courtyard located at the number 110 on Grande rue is one of the most beautiful ones with this double wooden and forged iron stairs and this mosaic wall.

The private mansion Terrier de Santans is absolutely fabulous even if the day I took this picture my grandpa almost died by trying to play a joke on me. Joker one day, joker everyday!

Besançon casino also is worth seeing outside and inside. My grandpa made it a habit to invite us all to have lunch at the casino restaurant every time we visited them because the dishes are sophisticated and delicious. Since the owner changed it’s not at good as it was… I’m so sad about it!

Let’s finish with these few pictures that I took during flea market day. It’s here that I’ve found this beautiful copper teapot which was the reason why my grandpa tried a joke on me.

Voilà, all of that is to say that we must learn to look and see what’s around us because beauty is everywhere for those who are able to see.

Here is a small Breton break before going back to our American road trip because 2 weeks ago the Boyfriend and I were invited by the Brittany tourist office to spend the weekend on the Esmerald coast with Sticky for her first holidays at the seaside!

I didn’t know Brittany apart from St Malo where I spent the weekend a few years ago. So it was about time to discover this area and its wild landscapes without having to look at the weather forecast (Brittany is famous for its wet weather). Anyway, the weather was so crap in Paris that it couldn’t have been worse.

Fréhel :

First stop: Le manoir St Michel, a XVIth century farm transformed into a charming hotel where we stayed for one night.  The hotel was chosen by the tourist office and to keep it as a surprise I hadn’t looked online  before to see what it looked like. We had a huge crush, we loved the decoration, the cosy atmosphere, the friendly welcome and the delicious homemade breakfast.

The breakfast is served in a glass room with a view over the sea and the 2 hectares private park. What a delight to taste homemade yoghurts, marmelades and cakes while contemplating the ballet of ducks, herons and rabbits!

Sticky seems to enjoy the view as well.

At the 2nd floor there was our room, it was simple but also very charming and confortable. The good thing to know is that the quality-price ratio is unbeatable because the owners don’t work with any booking centers like Booking.com. You can only book the rooms on the hotel website which explains why the prices are so attractive (the rooms cost between 60€ and 115€ for the biggest).

Like I told you, the hotel is located in a delightful setting, in the middle of a quite park and only a few meters from the beach.

This house is so full of charm and authenticity that we really regretted we couldn’t stay more than one night and so we are seriously thinking of going back soon.

After a good breakfast we walked on the beach close to the hotel. Brittany is the best place to wear a sailor outfit so I wore this day my Petit Bateau yellow wax, a Breton stripes top, Aigle rubber boots and a striped Herschel backpack (what do you mean this is too cliché?).  It was the best outfit to play on the beach with Sticky, it was her first time on a beach and she was so happy, running everywhere like a crazy dog, digging holes, gathering shellfishes and swimming! Then we took the direction of Fort La Latte, one of the most famous Breton castles. We took a coastal walk and there we had a glimpse of the castle, nested on top of the hill overlooking the sea: spectacular! Too bad the sky was so cloudy and foggy at this time even though it made the atmosphere more mysterious.

If you continue on this coastal path, you will arrive after a 1h30 walk at the Cap Fréhel lighthouse. These wild landscapes reminded us of Corsica where we are used to go every summer, what a beauty!  Once the sun came out, it was even more beautiful.

The vegetation here is lush, there are several types of heathers yellow and purple that make it so picturesque.

Saint Cast Le Guildo :

We passed by Saint Cast Le Guildo to have lunch at Truc Bidule, a nice little restaurant where they serve refined dishes made with local products. As a starter we had delicious smoked fishes from Le Fumoir de Saint Cast boutique. Then I had strawberries duck breast (I know, this is absolutely not local but I can’t help myself I just love ducks). Finally I had a delicious tart for dessert. It was really good, I recommend you this restaurant if you’re in the area!

Pléneuf Val André :

The 2nd city we’ve visited was Pléneuf Val André. We spent the 2nd night at the 4 stars hotel Spa marin du Val André. To be completely honest with you we didn’t like this hotel, the decoration was not our style and lacked some charm. The rooms were confortable and I’m sure that many of you could like them but the Boyfriend and I prefer charming little hotels.

We had breakfast at the tea room Le Recommandé. It’s not just a tea room in a former 30’s post office, but more importantly it’s the place where we had THE BEST PASTRIES OF OUR LIVES and I’m not exaggerating!!!  They were perfectly cooked and you could really taste the butter. This was an unexpected tasting experience and on top of that the interior design is so nice.

Let’s continue with Le Plein des Sens restaurant where we had lunch on a sunny terrace. The food was simple but good and it’s the perfect place to have lunch before frolicking on the beach.

Finally, we had fried smelts and mussels with French fries by the Dahouët harbor at La Voile bistrot and we finished with a kouign-amann. Eating local is important. :)

Last address I’d like to recommend you is the la boulangerie-pâtisserie Jacquin (14, rue Pasteur, Pléneuf-Val-André) which won the best kouign-amann price and and the gold medal for the best “far breton”. It was so good that I didn’t even had time to take a picture, I’m sorry.

Don’t worry, we didn’t just eat at Pléneuf Val André, we also enjoyed the beach because this day the weather was amazing. We had almost not seen the sun for 1 month so it felt very good! Sometimes you have to go to Brittany to get some sun and there is a Brittany proverb that says : “In Brittany, it only rains on jerks.” :)

Just before leaving to go back to Paris we stopped at Erquy where there was a flea market and we had a kouign-amann in front of the sea. What else?

As I’m sure you have understood, I totally fell in love with Brittany and I’m wondering how I could have missed out on it all these years. I think we will go to Brittany more often now and it’s not Sticky who would tell me otherwise. Thanks again to the Brittany tourist office for this perfect sailor weekend .

Vous commencez à me connaître sous le nom d’ « estomac sur pattes » et le week-end dernier j’ai mis à l’épreuve l’élasticité de ce dernier lors d’un week-end gastronomique et œnologique en Bourgogne.

Commençons tout d’abord comme d’habitude par la petite vidéo. :)

Avec le Rital on adore passer des week-ends dans les régions viticoles. Non pas que l’on soit des alcooliques mais on est des bons vivants et adore l’ambiance qui se dégage de ces régions-là. Pour vous donner une idée, on adore le film A good year ou encore Tu seras mon fils. Vous les avez vus ? Après avoir visité la région de Bordeaux et notamment St Emilion on était très enthousiastes à l’idée de passer un week-end en Bourgogne et encore plus de loger dans un château Châteaux Hôtels Collection.

Châteaux Hôtels Collection c’est le leader français de l’hôtellerie de charme et de la restauration gourmande, présidé par Alain Ducasse (que j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir rencontrer lors d’un event). Il réunit plus de 500 adresses dans 16 pays différents, principalement en France et en Italie.

Château Sainte Sabine :

C’est au Château Sainte Sabine faisant partie de Château Hôtel Collection que nous avons séjourné. Il est érigé sur un ancien monastère et est entouré d’un parc de 8 hectares où cohabitent biches, lièvres et autres animaux de la forêt. Malheureusement notre programme était serré le samedi donc on a pas eu le temps de faire un tour dans le parc et le dimanche la météo ne nous le permettait pas. J’ai donc simplement aperçu quelques biches de ma fenêtre. Voici quelques photos du château et de notre chambre.

J’ai profité de cette escapade bourguignonne pour étrenner mes nouvelles tennis Faguo dorées. Non seulement elles brillent mais en plus elles sont d’un confort incroyable ! Je sens qu’elles vont devenir mes meilleures alliées de flâneries (et ce carrelage, j’adore).

J’adore le côté authentique du château avec son escalier en marbre, ses lustres en cristal, ses moulures, ses dorures… un vrai château en somme où l’on se sent comme une princesse mais tout en restant chaleureux !

J’aime beaucoup le bar aux allures modernes qui se distingue immédiatement du reste de la pièce. On avait à peine franchi le seul du château qu’on a été accueilli par un véritable kir bourguignon (à base de crème de cassis et de bourgogne aligoté) qui n’avait rien à voir avec celui qu’on trouve d’ordinaire à Paris. Un délice !

Le château offre 22 chambres lumineuses à la décoration élégante et à des prix tout à fait abordables (notre chambre était aux alentours de 130€ la nuit). Ci-dessous, un aperçu de notre salle de bain et de notre chambre.

Le restaurant :

Nous avons déjeuné et dîné au restaurant du château : Le Lassey. Mon Dieu ce que c’était bon et le resto offre une vue panoramique sur le parc de la propriété et sur le village médiéval de Châteauneuf. C’était couvert donc on n’a pas pu vraiment en profiter mais l’été on peut déjeuner sur la terrasse, le spectacle doit être assez grandiose..

Le chef Sébastien Henry propose une cuisine traditionnelle et locale savamment revisitée. Le midi on a dégusté la formule entrée + plat + dessert. Un repas comme je les aime : raffiné et copieux, sachant qu’ensuite on devait enfourcher nos vélos pour une ballade. Disons qu’on ne pédalait pas à toute allure et pas forcément très droit (on avait déjà bu 3 verres de vin).

Le soir on a eu droit au dîné gastronomique et wow là c’était plus que copieux car on avait 3 entrées + 3 plats + fromages + 2 desserts (et un nombre incalculable de verres de vin). Après être sorti de table on avait quelques marches à monter pour regagner l’ascenseur et là le maître d’hôtel en nous voyant nous a demandé si on avait besoin d’un monte-charge pour vous donner une idée de l’état dans lequel on a terminé ! XD Pour info le menu gastronomique est à 75€ ce qui est plutôt raisonnable vu la quantité et la qualité de la nourriture.

Le canal de Bourgogne :

Après un déjeuner bien costaud on a réussi il faut le dire difficilement à monter en selle pour faire un petit tour le long du canal de Bourgogne grâce à des vélos prêtés par l’hôtel. La balade digestive parfaite pour découvrir les environs.

Visite du Château de Pommard :

On avait ensuite la visite du Château de Pommard de prévue. Une conseillère en vin nous a fait visiter le domaine viticole, les vignes, les caves, c’était vraiment très intéressant.

On a terminé par une dégustation de 4 vins et on a même pu repartir avec nos verres. Normalement lors de dégustations de vin on remplit le verre très peu, juste pour goûter et ensuite on peut le cracher. Là, les verres étaient bien remplis et le vin tellement bon que cela aurait été gâché de le cracher. Résultat entre le midi, la dégustation au Château de Pommard et le dîner gastro on a bien bu 12 verres de vin ce jour-là ! Mais lorsqu’on boit du bon vin on n’a pas mal au crâne le lendemain donc pourquoi s’en priver. Et puis on est en Bourgogne, il faut bien profiter des spécialités locales pour s’imprégner de la culture du lieu (l’excuse bidon).

Après la visite on avait encore un peu de temps donc on a fait un petit tour dans l’ancienne cuisine et dans le jardin du château.

Châteauneuf-en-Auxois :

Le dimanche on n’avait rien de spécial de prévu, on voulait juste profiter un peu des environs. Malheureusement il faisait un temps abominable : il faisait froid et il pleuvait à torrent (alors qu’à Paris il faisait un temps incroyable). Châteauneuf-en-Auxois étant réputé être l’un des plus beaux villages de France, on décidé d’y flâner un peu et c’est vrai que même sous la pluie on a trouvé cela charmant !

Hâte de revenir dans le coin en mai avec la cousine américaine du Rital qui voulait vivre la « French experience ». Je pense qu’on ne peut pas rêver mieux comme cadre et j’espère qu’on aura du soleil cette fois car j’ai très envie de flâner plus longuement dans ces charmants petits villages médiévaux. Et qui sait, peut-être qu’à cette occasion on reviendra au Château Sainte Sabine histoire de pouvoir enfin profiter du parc et de la piscine extérieure. Et vous savez quoi ? Le château accepte les chiens donc on pourrait même revenir avec Sticky. :) Ou pourquoi pas tester une autre adresse bourguignonne de Châteaux Hôtel Collection. A suivre…

Put on your ski shoes, I’m taking you to Val d’Isère where the Boyfriend and I we spent an amazing weekend in the wonderful five star hotel Les Barmes de l’Ours.

First of all here this is the video of our weekend:

We never had the opportunity of skiing together before this day. Ski vacations are so expensive that I prefer to keep my money for summer, to the regret of the Boyfriend who were used to go skiing for the weekend whenever he wanted to (Milan is only 1h drive from the mountains).
A few years back when my father was still leaving in Croatia, I used to go skiing with my family in Slovenia while the Boyfriend was skiing in Italy.

In a few words, being able to ski together was just great and even more so in Val d’Isère, the best French ski resort! The ice on the cake: the amazing hotel we stayed in!

Let’s start the visit with the spa, a 1000 SQM wellness space with 11 treatment booths, a hammam, 2 saunas, a jacuzzi and a pool under a starry sky.  I began my Saturday by a massage with Valmont products. I wish I could start my days like this every day and the jacuzzi with a snow view was just magical!  There is also an hair salon and for the most courageous ones a fitness room.  I don’t know about you but after skiing I’m so tired that I just can’t go to the gym.

This hotel is just beautiful. It’s a luxury hotel but without being ostentatious, you have the advantages of luxury like the quality of service, the comfort or a refined decoration but without the disadvantage of being stiff. I’ve rarely felt comfortable in these kind of atmospheres so I was very happy of realizing that it wasn’t the case at all here, it even was the contrary. The atmosphere was very friendly, cosy and relaxed, I had the impression of being in a chalet with friends.  I love these different tones of wood with stone and animal skins, it’s a good illustration of a bear’s cave (in French “barmes de l’ours” means just that).

Above you can see the smokehouse with this amazing idea of tree trunk on the ceiling and I absolutely love the bear armchairs!

Let’s go see the rooms now. The 76 rooms and suites are distributed over 4 floors where each floor has its own identity. The 1st floor where we were was Scandinavian spirit, the 2nd: Lodge of the American great white North, the 3rd: Alpine chalet and the last one: contemporary.

In one of the rooms we visited there was a jacuzzi on the terrace!

At the Barmes de l’Ours, bears are everywhere, even on slippers and room keys. Isn’t it cute?

There are 3 restaurants inside the hotel: « A la Table de l’Ours«, the gastronomic restaurant that has one Michelin star, « La Rôtisserie » to eat delicious meats and « Le Coin Savoyard » to share a raclette or a tartiflette (or both).

We had lunch at La Rôtisserie twice, the meat was delicious and the dessert buffet was perfect for a stomach on legs like me.

On Saturday evening we had dinner at the restaurant « Au Coin Savoyard« . We wanted to have tartiflette and raclette so we decided to take them both and share. When we saw the size of the raclette cheese and the tartiflette big enough for 4 people we thought there has been a mistake! Of course we couldn’t eat everything even though I’m a competitive raclette eater and even after taking several breaks.  We were supposed to go bowling after that but no need to mention that it was impossible, we would have rolled with the ball if we did! So we went back to our rooms literally rolling on the floor (which explains my behaviour in the video ah ah).

Finally, the bar close to the fireplace is very nice, the cocktails are good and this evening there was a very good music band.

In a few words, everything in this hotel is amazing and the restaurants, the bar and the spa are not only open for hotel guests so if you’re in Val d’Isère don’t hesitate to come have a look at this charming den Les Barmes de l’Ours.

And that’s not all, the hotel is also very well located because it’s at the foot of the legendary Bellevarde run. It snowed so much that we skied on powder snow, it was a bit dangerous but it was so nice! The hotel director, Valérie Boulenger, skied with us on Sunday so we were able to ski on the best runs.

We had been very lucky with the weather because it was snowing non-stop but as soon as we arrived on top of the mountains the sun came out. We even got tanned in only 2 days!

Before going back to Paris, we strolled a bit in Val d’Isère and let me tell you that it’s a lot more charming that the concrete ski resorts we usually see.

A big thank you to Mélinda and Valérie for their warm welcome and for their company, we spent an amazing weekend thanks to you. We wish we could hibernate here like bears the whole winter! Thank you also to Sophie from Article Onze for the invite. You should have seen the Boyfriend smiling from ear to ear running down the tracks, we were happy like kids!
