Parisian street food #2

eDSCF5999

It’s been more than a year since I published the 1st post about my Parisian street food addresses (you can read it again here). It’s time for the 2nd round :  à table !

The Sunken Chip :

If you have a sudden need for fish & chips, I know a less expensive solution than crossing the Channel: The Sunken Chip  where you just have to cross the Canal St Martin. There you have the choice between several kind of fresh fish that will be fried and served with homemade fries and mushy peas to eat in or to take away for a nice sunbath along the Canal.

Let me apologize for the bad presentation of my meal, I must have shaken it but trust me it’s really good! The only thing I was a bit disappointed with were the mushy peas because they were not cooked enough and there wasn’t enough mint for my taste, the ones the Boyfriend makes for me are far more better. :) However, I loved the Ginger Beer (ginger sparkling soda). Next time I’ll try Dandelion & Burdock. Anyway, don’t hesitate to try their English drinks, it changes from the usual beers and sodas.

: the place is very small so it’s better to take away if you don’t want to wait too long.

+ : since summer 2014, a food truck is traveling around Paris and the rest of France and you can also rent it for private events.

It makes me want to go back to London even more now!

Big Fernand :

I have heard so much about Big Fernand that I’m happy I finally had the opportunity to taste their burgers, sorry I should say their “hamburgés” (French burgers) made with good French ingredients. I easily understand now why it’s so famous, the burgers and the French fries are amazing and the staff is super friendly! They have several addresses in Paris and the rest of France but also in London since a few days!

Mum Dim Sum :

If you like dim sum, you know these Asian steamed raviolis served in bamboo baskets, then Mum Dim Sum is the place for you!

There is something for every taste : meat, fish, shellfish, vegetables, herbs and exotic spices to dip in a delicious sauce. They are steamed in front of you to eat in or to take away.

- : I paid a lot and I was still hungry at the end so it’s not a good solution for someone who has a big appetite like me.

+ : it’s still good and it’s nice to eat them on a bench in the beautiful Parc Monceau.

Nanashi :

Let’s continue with Asian food with Nanashi, this adorable Parisian bento where the decoration is simple but nice : school chairs, vegetable crates, a black board on the wall… The food is really good and made of fresh ingredients. A nice place to eat quickly but healthily.

Quartino :

Quartino is in line with Roman tradition of take-away pizza (al taglio). You can decide the size of your pizza depending on how hungry you are. The Boyfriend thinks it’s too expensive compared to Italy but it’s Paris prices and it’s the perfect idea for an apéro at home with some friends.

La Maison du Chou :

Time for dessert now! After the choux from Odette (that I talked to you about here) I’m gonna talk to you about the ones of La Maison du Chou because yes I just love choux! The shop is as chic as the wonderful place Furstenberg where it is located.

In the kitchen, the French starred chef  Manuel Martinez is creating different flavors of choux à la crème inspired by his grandmother’s recipes.

+ :The puffs are fresh to order and filled in front of your eyes with a sabayon (eggs, sugar and white cheese) with a slight sweetness and delightful freshness. Different flavors exist depending on the season but the classic ones are  : vanilla, praline, chocolate, coffee or plain (the best). I personally prefer the plain one because the cream is so light and tasty that it doesn’t need anything else, it’s a bite of heaven!

Compared to the ones of Odette I prefer these ones. Next step : tasting the ones of Popelini !

Aux Merveilleux de Fred :

Do you know this wonderful speciality from Flanders called Merveilleux (it means “wonderful” in French) ? It’s a meringue covered in whipped cream and chocolate chips. Everything I love the most combined in one dessert! At Aux Merveilleux de Fred you can either buy them in a mini version, regular or to share. Here again you have the choice between several flavors like spéculoos, coffee, cherry, praline, caramel and of the course the classic one : dark chocolate. This pâtisserie from Lille has now several shops in France but also in Brussels, in London and even in NYC!

Chacun ses goûts :

Frozen yogurts are very trendy during the summer,  you can see a lot of them in Paris but there is one I particularly like : Chacun ses goûts because their frozen yoghurts are made of 0% Norman yoghurt and organic milk and you can choose the flavor you want, the quantity and the toppings all by yourself. Usually there is someone serving you so I like to be able to do everything on my own and pour as much caramel as I want to.

blogDSCF8815 blogDSCF8816

Frozen yogurt is a good option during summer because it has fewer calories compared to ice cream but then it depends on the toppings. I often tell myself that it’s like eating a diet yoghurt to feel less guilty but then I add candies and caramel and almonds… Yes I know where is the logic in that?!

Tasca (Comme à Lisbonne) :

I have already told you about Comme à Lisbonne (here), a place where you can taste delicious pasteis de nata. Comme à Lisbonne works so well that they have opened a grocery store called Tasca, where you can sit and have a pasteis de nata with a coffee or you can buy Portuguese products. You can also just come for lunch and try one of their Portuguese specialities. I’m planning on going to Lisbon for a weekend in May, I can’t wait! :)
