Bucolic Paris #2 : Monceau

blogDSCF8312After la Cité des Fleurs, we stay in the 17th arrondissement of Paris (and at the edge of the 8th arrondissement) to visit one of the most beautiful districts of Paris : Monceau.. This district is full of wonders ! The parc Monceau is my favorite park in Paris for its poetic touch : a rich diversity of plants, many statues, a cave, a waterfall, a pyramid, medieval ruins… This park combines buildings from different times and styles which makes it so special, see for yourself !blogDSCF8270the cave and its waterfall blogDSCF8274

Door of the old Hôtel de Ville burned down in 1871.blogDSCF8357Several marble statues of writers and musicians decorate lawns. Above : Guy de Maupassant and below : Charles Gounod.blogDSCF8303Finally, here this is the famous Naumachia : a pond surrounded by Corinthian columns from the church Notre-Dame de la Rotonde in St Denis which was demolished in 1719.blogDSCF8283 blogDSCF8284 blogDSCF8292blogDSCF8286 blogDSCF8352

This 8 hectare park is the refuge for strollers looking for some peace and voluptuousness and  picnickers during summer. :)blogDSCF8263 blogDSCF8266 blogDSCF8301

If I like this district so much it’s not only about the park but also for its wonderful luxurious buildings and private mansions bordering it. blogDSCF8304 blogDSCF8308

Rue Rembrandt is one of the most beautiful streets because there are 2 of my favorite buildings. This one below is one of them and it’s even more beautiful when the wisterias are blooming without mentioning the overwhelming fragrance. However, it’s probably not ideal for people living at the 1st floor, they probably don’t get much light but well, we certainly won’t pity them. ;)blogDSCF8315 blogDSCF8334

At the corner of rue Rembrandt and rue de Lisbonne stands an impressive high standing stone building arrayed with metallic bow windows built buy the architect Gustave Rives in 1896. I love the mix between the Second Empire and the Art Nouveau styles. blogDSCF8317blogDSCF8320blogDSCF8324Rue Rembrandt blogDSCF8321 blogDSCF8322

At the corner of rue Rambrandt and rue de Courcelles, a bright red Chinese pagoda stands among Haussmannian facades, this is the Maison Loo. This 19th century building has been transformed in a Chinese inspiration pagoda to please an antic dealer specialized in Oriental art. Today it’s a private museum.blogDSCF8330

There is also a lot to see in the avenue Vélasquez like the Cernuschi Museum (museum of the city of Paris dedicated to Asian arts) or the Châteauform’ City Monceau Vélasquez, a seminar venue.blogDSCF8336blogDSCF8347Châteauform’ City Monceau VélasquezblogDSCF8349musée Cernuschi

To top it off, let’s finish our stroll with this beauty on boulevard de Courcelles. blogDSCF8240 blogDSCF8243 blogDSCF8248On Saturday it’s the 1st official day of summer so I wish you all a nice summer and plenty of sunny strolls !
