Tea time at Soul Kitchen

Three friends decided one day to stop living their ordinary lives and decided to open their own coffee shop in an old wine cellar perched on the top of the Montmartre hill. At Soul Kitchen they serve good homemade dishes and delicious homemade pastries in a charming and cosy atmosphere.

Jessica, Marion, Andréa and I came in early September to have a nice tea time together. Soul Kitchen has everything to please you and I will briefly explain why. From a decoration point of view:

The decoration is both rustic and poetic: old tiles, patinated furniture, wooden tables, mismatched chairs, an old typewriter and a  cloud of paper butterflies. I love this mix of styles that makes it looks like a country house. Even the tableware the food is served in is adorable. It is from Bloomingville but if you like it you can buy it directly on site!blogDSCF1736 blogDSCF1725 blogDSCF1716 blogDSCF1714 blogDSCF1694 blogDSCF1712 blogDSCF1703 blogDSCF1705Bloomingville dishesblogDSCF1720

From a food point of view:

The food has no need to envy the decoration because here only fresh, good quality and seasonal products are served.  With the girls, we just came for tea time so we didn’t have the chance to try the salted dishes but I’ve heard a lot of positive comments about them that I’ll sure come back soon. We enjoyed a delicious tarte tatin, a lemon meringue pie to die for and amazing cookies with a homemade fruit flavored lemonade.  During winter their specialty is the “Reanimator”: a hot handmade apple juice with fresh ginger syrup!

What is great is that the menu changes everyday (on their Facebook page they publish everyday a picture of the menu) and the prices are not that high compared to other trendy coffee shops.blogDSCF1697 blogDSCF1702 blogDSCF1699blogDSCF1718We didn’t taste the chocolate cake but it seemed as delicious as the rest.

From an atmosphere point of view:

Finally, the atmosphere should not been forgotten. Good spirits rule everywhere thanks to the board game closet (perfect for rainy afternoons), to the challenge of the day written on the board to win a (Proust) madeleine (the challenge we had was to name 10 flower names starting by the letter C… and trust me it’s not that easy) and without forgetting the kindness of the owners. The atmosphere was so friendly and warm that you could easily feel like you were at a good friend’s house.blogDSCF1723You can understand now why I loved so much this unpretentious place which truly deserves its success. As a consequence, there are a lot of people and the place is quite small so it’s not easy to find a free table without waiting but the game is worth the candle!blogDSCF1711blogDSCF1729Soul Kichen – 33 rue Lamarck – 75018 PARIS

Bon appétit !
