I was invited for the official opening of the new Jimmy Fairly store and so I took this opportunity to stay for the weekend to discover the city. Even if Lyon is the 3rd most populated city of France after Paris and Marseille, I never had the chance to go there before and I’m happy I finally did, this city is really beautiful !
Here is a glimpse (well this post is quite long but choosing among my 300 pictures wasn’t easy) of our 3 days here.
Day 1 :
We were welcomed by a wonderful sun in Lyon on Friday afternoon. We started by strolling in the center. the flower tree on place Antonin Poncet by the Korean artist Jeong Hwa Choi place Bellecour place Francisque Régaud
For those who don’t know Jimmy Fairly, this is a French optician which sells frames + glasses at 99€. Glasses are designed in France and manufactured by hand in Italy. This is high quality, the designs are very fashionable and the prices are low compared to most of the other opticians. And do you know what ? When you buy a pair of glasses, they offer a pair to someone in need (concept Buy one give one), another good reason to buy Jimmy Fairly.
Jimmy Fairly – 72 rue du Président Edouard Herriot – 69002 LYON
Then we went for dinner in a small typical restaurant : Aux Trois Cochons. At the menu you have different specialities from Lyon like guts and all kind meals with pork meat and for dessert “cervelle de canut” (flavored fromage blanc) or praline tart. Don’t forget the good Côte du Rhône wine of course.
Aux Trois Cochons – 9 rue des Marronniers – 69002 LYON
A good thing to know : if you wanna go have dinner in a good restaurant in Lyon, make a reservation as soonest as possible because they all are booked very fast. We did it too late, and so couldn’t go to the restaurants we planned to go to like La Tête de Lard or Café des Fédérations.
For our first night we stayed at the Mama Shelter decorated by Philippe Starck. I liked a lot this loony universe and the bed was very comfy. Very nice Lyon guide ! Mama Shelter, 13 rue Domer 69007 LYON
Day 2 :
We then got lost somewhere amongst the small paved streets in the old city. I especially loved that city area with its colorful facades, its beautiful doors and its floral balconies. Lyon made me think of a Mediterranean version of Paris, a mix between Paris and Italy (which explains why my boyfriend was almost feeling at home).
For lunch we stopped at Comme chez Mathilde (66 rue Saint-Jean – 69005 LYON) and had some pastries with pralines in a boulangerie
Hyggelig, is a home shop selling the best designers from Scandinavia, France and England in a beautiful space of 150 m2.
Hyggelig – 13 rue Auguste Conte – 69002 LYON
In the evening we wanted to have a simple dinner but in a cool atmosphere. Thanks to your recommendations again, we went to L’Epicerie which is a “tartine bar” where the decoration is rustic as I like and the food simple but good.L’Epicerie – 2 rue de la Monnaie – 69002 LYON
Day 3 :
We woke up in this beautiful appartement that we rented on Airbnb for the night.
Lyon is such a welcoming city with a wonderful architecture, where you eat very well (delicatessen and praline especially) and where you easily feel at home. In a few words, this is a city which invites you to stroll and which is already whispering to my ear “come back”…
